PROMETHEUS RESEARCH

Investigating what changes before the world does.

Prometheus is Pythology's developing autonomous research intelligence. He is investigating changes across seismic, volcanic and extreme-weather systems, while our wider research programme extends towards biological and physical change. His purpose is to test whether measurable conditions carry useful information before major events — and to preserve the evidence when they do not.

He observes. He questions. He keeps the evidence. And when reality answers, he checks his work.

Why Prometheus exists

Because understanding change matters to human lives.

The world produces enormous amounts of environmental information, but important changes can be difficult to recognise among everyday fluctuations.

Prometheus was developed to investigate those changes, look for relationships and help us determine which observations deserve closer attention.

The long-term goal is to discover whether reproducible precursor signals exist, and to understand their limitations. Behind the data are real people, homes and communities. That purpose drives careful investigation — never an unsupported warning.

What he does

Observe. Investigate. Test.

01 / OBSERVES

See what's changing

Prometheus examines incoming environmental and geophysical observations, looking for meaningful changes and unusual patterns.

02 / INVESTIGATES

Question the evidence

He identifies areas of interest, compares observations and records what the available evidence supports — including uncertainty and alternative explanations.

03 / TESTS

Let reality answer

When predictions are made, they are recorded before the outcome is known. Successful results, incorrect predictions and inconclusive findings all matter.

PROMETHEUS RESEARCH · THE PROGRAMME

The research journey.

A public overview of demonstrated capabilities and the research still ahead. We deliberately keep private operational details, internal methods and sensitive system architecture out of this overview.

ESTABLISHED · RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE

Observe & remember

Environmental and geophysical research watches, persistent investigation records, source-linked evidence, historical earthquake inventories and reproducible research receipts.

ESTABLISHED · BOUNDED OPERATIONS

Investigate & revisit

Approved-source retrieval, scheduled read-only evidence checks, historical comparison studies and limited autonomous research batches. Uncertainty and failed investigations stay visible.

UNDER EVALUATION · RESEARCH INTELLIGENCE

Question & challenge

Comparative seismic research, early-signal hypotheses, research-effectiveness assessment and local AI advice are being tested. Their scientific usefulness is not yet established.

IN DEVELOPMENT · CROSS-DOMAIN RESEARCH

Connect disciplines

Extend evidence-linked investigations across seismic, volcanic, extreme-weather, biological-change and physical-change research, each with domain-specific validation.

NEXT · SCIENTIFIC VALIDATION

Test what survives

Build comparable non-event controls, account for observation gaps, evaluate counterexamples, measure false alarms and misses, and test hypotheses on held-out and prospective data.

LONG-TERM AIM · ADAPTIVE RESEARCH

Improve the method

Develop bounded strategy selection that learns which investigations genuinely reduce uncertainty. Keep public communication and consequential actions under human authority.

His performance, on the record

We want his results to stand up to scrutiny.

—Forecasts resolved
—Empirically calibrated forecasts
—Outcomes later observed
—Brier score · lower is better

Loading the public forecast ledger…

What is a Brier score? It's one way of measuring how well probabilistic forecasts match actual outcomes. Lower is better, but the number becomes meaningful only with enough representative observations.

We don't want Prometheus to simply sound convincing. We want his results to stand up to scrutiny. Successful forecasts, misses and inconclusive cases must all remain part of the record.

PROMETHEUS · SEPARATE RESEARCH WATCHES

Where he is looking now.

Independent geoscience and extreme-weather screening. These observations do not modify committed forecasts or imply validated predictions.

PROMETHEUS · WORLDWIDE RESEARCH

Subterranean Precursor Lab

CHECKING PUBLIC RELAY

Independent hourly screening of earthquake-catalogue patterns and known volcanic settings, with evidence limits kept visible.

Weather Precursor Lab

CHECKING PUBLIC SNAPSHOT

Patterns in global environmental conditions, with separate New Zealand observational screening. These are research candidates, not weather warnings or validated predictions.
